We should never be amazed.
A warlord, killer, torturer, a man who denies human rights will run for elections in Congo?
Jean-Pierre Bemba was arrested in 2010 and extradited to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
In 2016, the World Court sentenced him to 18 years in prison! The judges believed that his rebels had murdered, raped and plundered under his control in the neighboring Central African Republic.
Surprising news now:
The International Criminal Court overturned the verdict on appeal. Bemba was released and transferred to Belgium, where he lives with his family.
Since then, rumors have spread that he wants to return home to run for presidency…
Why do we need an International Criminal Court? What do it stand for? Why do we pay for an International Criminal Court?
Who are the judges?
Do you remember one important action of the last years of the International Criminal Court? What do they do?
If not for the African Union a dictator like Hissène Habré would not be imprisoned today, because the International Criminal Court also let him go and didn’t condemn him because he was protected by the US.
The international Couet is totally useless but we should also not question the cost of the International Criminal Court… that ideally is responsible for our world’s human rights???
