Worldpolice, secret agents, 190 States are Interpol.
Corruption, organ- and drug trade, prostitution, poisoned trash, money laundry, terrorism or tax crimes – all these are charges for Interpol.
Globalization of course also globalised crime and digitisation helps to make crimes easier and faster…New are cybercrimes.
Monaco, 1914 the first international meeting of various international police departments of different countries took place.
Interpol has a reputation, we all know Interpol, but what do we know about Interpol??
Quiet obvious, Interpol coordinates the 192 countries police global issues.
We need to imagine that all these 192 countries have very different political and strategic models and Interpol has very limited budget – 50 million while for example the FBI around 70 Billions!
Therefore 2011 the decision to allow big negotiated contracts with sponsors, companies and States and this….puts questions, if Interpol can act without conflict of interests? Integrity?
2017 the European Union questions some important aspects, like for example that Interpol is used by States and sponsors to haunt state oppositioners, human rights advocates – are there abuses, misuse of Interpol by sponsors?
A special Interpol “red notice” for journalist Can Dündar who was arrested by the Spanish police reactivated questioning…this “Red Notice” was issued by Ankara, Turkey. Dündar is famous for his strong opinion about Armenian genocide of the Turks and a reknown advocate for Kurd human rights.
Red notices increased quiet a lot over the last decade and according to Interpol only 1 to 2% are questionable – this still means some thousands…
Budget deficits need to be questioned. How can the second largest organization of the world with 192 member states be financially so neglected ?
Interpol General Director Ronald Noble fights for years for acceptable budget increase to reach 1 Billion to fight against international crime! He reached 70 Million – far from the needed 1 Billion.
There, out of necessity the private, public fundraising started and 2010 the first partner FIFA (with President Blatter!) could be won with 20 million per year. More partners followed, such as Philipp Morris, Sanofi and other pharmaceutical industries…
Just one example: of course if Interpol can stop some illegal tobacco trafficking, that means billions more for the company! (Other documents even investigate that illegal tobacco imports are organized by the tobacco industry to be able to attract more youth with cheaper products, no tax… but this is another never ending issue)!
Pharmaceutical industry – the same, if we think that 1 out of 10 sold medication is fake….
2011 Interpol General Director Ronald Noble travelled to Madrid with no official notice. Quiet unusual for a man that normally communicated everything. He met with the Dolder Group, the association of the 29 biggest pharmaceutical industries.
Abstract of Noble’s speech: “Interpol understands the sensitivity of your struggle against the threat posed the global trafficking of counterfeit pharmaceutical products. The organization I have the honour to lead is capable of leveraging your resources to develop a multi-pronged strategy that will protect both your corporate interests and the security of millions around the world…”
Interpol visited the Indian association of pharmaceutical industries and blamed them to sell fake medication…? Just because they don’t use the giants patents? There are lots of fakes also in India, yes, but not because India buys less and less of the “big” names…by the way the same we can see all over the world with the “Generic”, Generica, labels.
Just a number: 92% of HIV medication comes from India
Access to payable medication is not guaranteed all over the world by pharmaceutical giants!
Today (we would think, finally) Interpol will not accept any more financial support from multi-national-companies or private sector!
Do you remember when FIFA leaders were arrested in Switzerland… ? Was this programmed by Interpol? It seems that the FBI and Swiss police needed to intervene.
Today an ethic commission shall control the future partnerships of Interpol. Qatar became a partner and since the ethic commission only checks on private sector, this partnership should be good?
No budget doesn’t justify wrong partnerships !
To make things easy, in 2013 Interpol General Director Ronald Noble founded an Interpol Foundation, called “Foundation for a safer word” in Geneva, Switzerland. This also requested a prominent Board and for example Sheik Mansour, Stuart Gulliver, various former head of states, Prince Albert of Monaco became members of the Board.
This foundation collects money for Interpol and therefore there is no direct contact for Interpol to the financial partners and the ethic commission of Interpol doesn’t need to check on the partners… for example UAE supports the foundation with 50 million Euros.
No words.
